Gator AGoGo A Novel Serge Storms Tim Dorsey 9780061432712 Books

Florida's favorite caffeine and adrenaline-infused vigilante Serge Storm rides mayhem and minutia again in Tim Dorsey's latest offering for the chronically ADD, "Gator A Go-Go," a Dorsey-frenzied serving with more plot and suspense than his typical fare. This time around, Serge's one-maniac quest to rid Florida of its undesirables is coincidental with Serge's latest project: a documentary of Florida's legendary Spring Break - from Panama City to Daytona Beach to college spring party town mother lode Fort Lauderdale. Whether the infraction is failing to pull over for an emergency vehicle, cold-blooded murder, or filming porn using underage actors, Serge's brand of justice is unequivocal. And creative - never in the history of pop culture have villains been so artfully and enjoyably dispatched as when left to Tim Dorsey's fertile mind working on behalf of the lovable and elusive serial killer Serge and his drunk, drugged, usually comatose, and, this time, cannon-balling sidekick Coleman.

You always know what to expect with Dorsey: non-stop action and dark rumor, wrapped around truly fascinating bits of culture, lore, trivia and history of our wackiest state. But "Gator A Go-Go" rises a jolt or two above the talented Dorsey's unique formula; "Gator" offering a glimpse of a darker underbelly, hints of more serious issues, and running along a leaner, more discernable plot line adding mystery to the authors curious blend of pandemonium and wisdom. A witness protection program enrollee unwittingly outs himself, kicking off a series of unbelievable yet comic events that attract a vicious Miami gang's need for revenge, colliding head-on with Serge's erudite lunacy. Serge journeys veer from a remarkably practical and insightful analysis of Biblical conundrum to death-by-ejection-from-an-amusement-ride to a hijacked kindergarten graduation address chock full of sage observation and advice. Serge and his newly acquired frat boy posse face serious life-or-death confrontations on the way to a white-knuckled climax that delivers a punch more typically associated with Lee Child or Robert Crais.

From the epic Elbo Room bar in Ft. Lauderdale to a young Tom Petty's introduction to Elvis in Ocala, Dorsey's "Gator A Go-Go" is entertainment in an original art form - think Carl Hiaasen cranked and amped to a pace he'll never catch - but as always best taken in small doses. One of the best in an uncommon series - don't miss it.

Gator AGoGo A Novel Serge Storms Tim Dorsey 9780061432712 Books Reviews

All the gang is back, Colman, City, Country, Johnny Vegas and the Florida Panhandle never looked so crazy, not even on MTV... and I'm only 1/2 way through. Tim Dorsey never fails to deliver a twisted view of America's (not just Florida's) social values run amok. After all, Florida was a fairly honest if not hostile place to live before the post-50's invasion... now only a serial killer with a stoned side-kick can make sense of it all.
An entertaining respite from Infinite Jest
Another wild ride with crazy genius sociopath Serge A. Storms and his faithful sidekick Coleman. Spring Break hijinks turn into a hilarious romp with hitmen, college kids, two hot ladies, the FBI, little old ladies, and new uses for construction sites.
Awesome book a must read
This series i think has been taken as far as it can go. I know the publisher will not let the author right a book without Serge and Colman, and that is too bad. All of the laughs are gone from this series and all we are left with is familiar characters do what they have done in all the other books. Unfortunately it is not only not funny anymore, it is not even entertaining.
I would recomend you skip this book and start at the beginning with Florida Roadkill, and stop at Atomic Lobster.
Tim, please write about something other than Serge and Colman. Don't be the last to know when it is time to hang it up (HELLO JIMMMY BUFFET I WONDER IF YOU ARE LISTENING)!
Tim Dorsey is an accomplished writer who has created a series of adventures using his signature characters, Serge and Coleman. Serge is a high minded social activist who loves Florida history. He travels around the state filling the reader in on the origins of spring break, Daytona Beach, the swimming hall of fame and the boat slip used by John D. McDonald's Character, Travis McGee. Serge also acts on his principles. Instead of yelling at people who insult his sense of integrity, he kills them. It's not easy to kill so many people in so many strange ways, so he is lucky to have his burned out friend,Coleman, to assist him in his adventures. Using these characters as a foil, Dorsey weaves an interesting plot through the pages of Gator a Go Go. I highly recommend this book to my friends.
Serge is back with his drug-addled sidekick Coleman. Not to mention several characters returning from past misadventures, including 'City' and 'Country', partying bimbos with attitude. While the formula remains the same, Serge meandering through Florida creatively dispatching select targets ranging from total jerks to dangerous criminals, this offering is a cut above some of the more recent Serge novels. The subject matter, Spring Break, lends itself to the zaniness inherent in all of these novels, and the plot moves at a more measured and interesting pace. I would rate this book with Torpedo Juice and some of the earlier novels like Orange Crush as a favorite. If you haven't read this book yet, buy it and take it with you to the beach, maybe for Spring Break!
