I love the series, the action, and Bree, the main character. But with Nate as her love interest I just can't give this 5 stars. He's pretty horribly abusive toward her, belittles her constantly, is disgustingly disrespectful and dismissive towards a woman who is obviously intelligent and likeable. Everyone seems to like her in fact...except Nate. He can't seem to stand her except to suddenly decide to use her for sex on occasion, which she jumps right on like a lap dog no matter the current situation as if he hasn't treated her like a dense bimbo 5 minutes earlier. He constantly keeps her in the dark like she's too stupid to bother sharing information with, then mocks and derides her when she's understandably angry about being put in deadly situations at his whim with no explanation. Then she in true bimbo-like fashion is all like "oh he was right" when it isn't clear at all why that was "right" of him to do. Every time he says "well would you have done X if I had told you..." the answer is always yes, so it appears to be completely unjustified. He's just an unlikeable dick. I get the whole "following orders" part in tense, dangerous situations in the apocalypse. But he just always seems disgusted by her in particular. It's inconsistent as well. One day he "respects her opinion" and actually speaks to her like she might be a somewhat intelligent human, but on the next outing she's back to being an irritating moron he resents for existing. Luckily the rest of the writing and story, other than Bree seeming to be oddly tween-like for someone in her 30s (which may explain her dreamy acceptance of his treatment), is so good, because this one aspect very nearly ruins the series for me. It makes an otherwise great character seem desperate and a little dumb because all they seem to share is some vague "chemistry" that trumps being treated like a bumbling bimbo. I took from the opening of the series that eventually he stops being such an ass...but hell it's 3 books in and no end of that in sight.

The pace, action, and characters in general are really good. The story is suspenseful and exciting, it's never a boring read so far.

Escalation Green Fields #3 eBook Adrienne Lecter Reviews

Wow, what a ride so far. Terrific characters with a back and forth that I love, add something some sick action and a morbid view of the zombie apocalypse and you get the picture. Before I jump into book 4, you r really need to star this series, it's perfect!
These books are starting to get a bit British for something that is set in the American Midwest.

I did notice a change in the author's voice in this book; it felt like every third word was "chuffed."

It felt a bit as if this book was a means of tying up some loose ends as well as foreshadowing the second half of the series.

I look forward to the next installment.
I have to say this series gets better with every book. As with the other two, took me a little to get hooked into the plot. Once it's done I can't stop reading. That's why the 5 stars
In every book there's more info about what's happened and is happening as a whole story. That's great for me. Can't wait to see what's next and specially I want to see Bree grow up as a person.
Would have given this book 5 stars but the author reused the same word over and over the word is "so". As in I so was not into this, Bree was so using the word that it became so irritating. In the first 2 books this was not a problem but by the third book the author must have had a conversation with a 12 year old and picked up the word "so".. Looking forward to the next entry in the series as the author really can write a book that holds your interest.
This is an exciting suspenseful saga of Survival by a small group of folks. This story starts after a winter spent, in the Wyoming mountains, hiding from the Zombie like hordes who sre still moving, searching for "Food", whether it is human, or animal does not matter. During this winter break the crew has also spent time improving their equipment and preparing for Spring.

We find Bree, Nate, and the gang getting back on the road after establishing an alliance with some other survivors in the wilder parts of Wyoming. Bree, Nate and their crew are back on the road, looking for other survivor, seeking supplies, arms and ammo. They find that the evil of their fellow survivors, is still evident and the Bad gangs, have sunk to new levels of depravity. .
A decent read but a lot of what I call "skimmer pages." Too much unnecessary (IMHO) intro/retrospection between the main and two main characters where I skim the pages. Also, too much use of the word "so"; I'm so not ready, I'm so not looking forward to it, I'm so gonna kill him, etc. I made it through book 4 but that's as far as I'll go with this series.
Slight disclaimer here I have read through the 4th book in this series and am now going back and reviewing the previous books. I will try not to give any spoilers, but if I do, I apologize up front.

Picking up where the second book left off, we are now hip deep in zombie action. Fantastic pacing and wonderful twists and turns, leaving you, the reader, on the edge of your seat. This book let's us see deeper into the post apocalypse culture and rebuilding of civilization...or at least some people's idea of how it should be. We get to meet some good folks and some we had hoped were already eaten. All in all a great addition to the series.

As far as the writing, there were typos here and there, but nothing too distracting (for example a 'pallet' is something you stack freight on, not a palette'). Wonderful writing from an author I had never heard of before and money well spent!
